When you are a beginner, how do you start with playing guitar?

Beginners and guitar! Hmm, not exactly the best combination, are they? The reason I said that is because, I too was a beginner at a point of time and I too did the same mistakes that most beginners do despite having read through a thousand pages of beginner’s guides and literature.

Now, about 4 years later, here I am preaching to the choir. But I simply cannot help it. If you are smart, you will get the gist of things by the end of this article. If not, then I will see you four years down the line saying the same lines that I said up there. So are you all set to proceed further? Beginners are a very impatient species.

From the first day onwards, they seem to want everything faster than the average Joe on the streets. The moment I held a guitar for the first time, I was expecting to beat my instructor. After a month, I hoped to beat the Eagles (Whew!). If you are going on the same lines, then stop. Here are five pointers that should help you enormously in your learning process as a beginner.

1. Slow and steady wins the race.

The person who said that was a lot smarter than most of us. The first lesson for beginners looking to learn the guitar is ‘be patient’. No one has learnt to play the guitar in 3 minutes or 60 minutes or one day for that matter. So if you are still investing your money in books that promise to teach you to play the guitar in minutes, then it’s a total wastage of your investments. The guitar is a musical instrument that requires a lot of skill and patience to master. So, set a realistic time frame to learn the basics and a lifetime to master it.

2. Hold the guitar properly.

You only learn it once and you will probably find that you can never unlearn your first learning for years. So ensure that you get your basics right and hold the guitar properly. It should feel comfortable in your hands and you must be able to play both frets and strings with equal grace.

3. Start off with finger exercises.

I still remember how my instructor always used to tell me to warm up each time I wanted to play and I wished I could strangulate him (If my instructors reading this, then please forgive me). But over the years, it is this warm up routine that has helped me hone my skills. Finger exercises are a very important part of your learning curve. It might seem like the most tedious thing at first, but without it, you will be like a kid stuttering to recite a poem.

4. Start by playing lead and then proceed to chords.

Once you start playing chords, the impatient demon tends to take over and you want to play the most advanced chords in a few weeks. But chords are the core of any guitar lesson and you need to give it due time and effort. Go slow and take one chord at a time. Master it and then proceed to the next.

5. Practice, my boy, practice.

The last thing you want to do is play your guitar once every week. I remember that I used to practice for almost 8 hours a day while learning the instrument. It has gone down now. But I still tweak the strings at least once in a day. No amount of lessons or reading material is going to teach you what practice will. Keep these five things in mind, follow them routinely until you have reached an advanced stage. (You can play a few songs) and then, stick to the last point in the five. Have fun!

Belajar Gitar

e-----------------------------------------------
B-----------------------------------------------
G-----------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------
A-----------------------------------------------
E-----------------------------------------------

e----0-------------------------------------------
B----1-------------------------------------------
G----2-------------------------------------------
D----2-------------------------------------------
A----0-------------------------------------------
E------------------------------------------------

ni sedikit contoh, guitar tab yang ditunjukkan di atas adalah kod A minor di mana angka 2 yang ditulis disepanjang garisan itu mewakili bilangan fret ( fret ke 2 )dimainkan serentak dalam satu petikan,

e---------------0-----------------------------
B---------1--------1----1---------------------
G------------2-------2------------------------
D------2--------------------------------------
A---0-----------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------

Guitar Lessons For Children

Guitar Lessons For ChildrenBy B Matheson

'Music is a wonderful self-disciplinary exercise for children. If a child shows interest in music and chooses guitar as his course of study, it should first be determined if the child can persist through the sometimes tedious process of learning to play guitar. Bear in mind that there are also various styles of guitar music, i.e., classical, jazz, blues and rock. Within each of these guitar genres, there are also various signature styles influenced by guitarists with a professional following. Many young students choose the genre they are most often exposed to.

Guitar lessons are required. Seek a professional, musically well-rounded, guitar teacher. In the first six to eight weeks of guitar lessons, the student is taught to read music, if he doesn't already have this ability and to coordinate this with learning to play guitar. These initial guitar lessons give an indication of the student's desire to learn. Once the student becomes adept in reading music and playing musical notes on an acoustic guitar. These guitars are generally inexpensive for beginners and are often available on a rental basis from the guitar studio.
In the second phase of guitar lessons, the student learns to "chord", combining several notes picked simultaneously. This is generally the point at which students gravitate to a specific genre of music. Students learn to play guitar with a "pick", a small triangular disk with which the strings are "picked". Or, fingering without a pick. Some guitarists also use a "slide" to enhance the sound of each notes. The slide is a tubular shaped cylinder sometimes made from metal, bone or glass and slipped over the finger and laid across the guitar strings. This method is found most often in blues music or bluegrass. One less common playing technique is to pluck the strings with the thumb. Another is the use the palm of the hand as a "baffle" across the small opening in the center of the front of the guitar. This method has the effect of altering sound volume.

While guitar lessons may be found on the internet, it should be noted that this form of instruction still requires oversight and direction for children, especially in the earliest phases of instruction, depending on the age of the student. Online guitar instruction requires self-motivation. This form of instruction is easier for adults than children. The obvious advantages of receiving guitar instruction from a professional instructor are readily available help whenever difficulties arise in the lessons.

Once a student reaches the advanced phases of guitar lessons, he is encouraged to try performing before an audience or to play guitar with other types of musicians. This affords the student a more well-rounded course of guitar study.
